The colts came up against a Ringwood team that has been fairly competitive this season and the first quarter seemed to indicate they might be so again. However the boys soon got going and aided by a match winning 9 goals from Billy they were able to post an emphatic 76 point win kicking 17.16.118 to 6.6.42. In addition to Billy’s 9, Kyle and Michael kicked 2 goals. In the best were Billy, Matt G, Mitch Mac and Kyle.

The Colts recorded another easy win in cold, windy conditions at Pinks Reserve. The first quarter saw the boys trailing by 1 point and there were thoughts that we may be in for a close one, however the second quarter put paid to that notion with the home side kicking 8 goals 3 to the oppositions 3 behinds. They went on to extend the lead eventually running out winners by a very handy 64 points. Goals were kicked by Matt G and Billy - 4 each and Condello and Tindley-Roe 3 apiece. Among the best were Blake, Groenewald, Larsen and Meredith.

Needing to bounce back after relinquishing top spot the Colts were looking to perform well against a lesser performed side. The game was close all day and was evenly poised with 1 point separating the teams at ¾ time. Unfortunately we were overrun in the last quarter and went down by 3 goals. Better players were Jarryd Van Koll, Ash Steegstra and Jason Lindgren. Goal kickers included Billy with 3 and Harry Tindley-Roe with 2.

This was a crucial game between first and second on the ladder with both teams going into the game undefeated. The boys started well and were leading at the ¼ time break. From then on the team was outscored for the rest of the game and eventually went down by 8 points. It was quite different from previous games with the players being pressured for the whole 4 quarters and hopefully they will have learnt from the experience. Better players for the day Schilling, Condello and Lindgren. Billy continued his high scoring kicking 8, whilst Michael Condello contributed with 2.

The Colts ventured to Mt Waverley with some of the big names missing through injury or unavailability but they were still confident of posting another win. With a number of players out the opportunity was there for some of the guys who missed games to make their mark and this they certainly did eventually running out winners by 112 points. Billy again racked up the goals with 9 majors and Josh Garside chipped in with 2. Better players included Kyle Larsen, Billy, Mitch O’Rourke and Ash Steegstra.

After 2 big wins in the prior rounds the Colts faced up to 2008 premier & 3rd placed Mulgrave and faced some much stiffer opposition before running out comfortable winners kicking 19.10.124 to Mulgrave 10.7.67 recording a 57 point victory. Mario “Sweat” Condello continued his good form from the previous week with a best on ground performance playing in the centre also was the sides leading goal kicker with 5 goals. Matt Groenewald provided plenty of drive through the midfield & was well supported by Jayden Riggall, Jason Lindgren & Lochie Gregory. It was pleasing to see other goal kickers coming from even spread with Billy Schilling kicking 4, Jayden Riggall 3 & Gary Sheppard 3.

The Colts continued on with their impressive start to the season with a very polished team effort to run away with a big 104 point. Matt Groenewald provided great drive from the middle and was well supported by Mitch McLaughlin, Kyle Larsen and Jason Lindgren. The forwards were given great delivery all day and responded accordingly with Billy kicking 9, Gary Sheppard 4 and Matt Groenewald 4. The Colts now sit on top of the ladder and are looking the team to beat this season.

The Colts were terrific again today with a great team effort although the individual highlight of the game would have to be Billy’s 12 goals. He was ably supported by Gary with 6. It seems these two are going to continue on from last season and will make life very difficult for the opposing backmen. The forwards were aided by some great work in middle and half back by Mitch Mac and Michael Condello. Ryan Groenewald and Nick Whatnall also impressed with their first games in the 18’s.

The Colts welcome Matt Smith in his first coaching role and we wish him all the best for Season 2009. All the players need to step up and support Matt and the club looks forward to a successful year from this enthusiastic group of young men. The Colts made a real statement in their season opener with an impressive team effort and quickly bolted to a big lead which they held all day. The boys took the foot off the accelerator in the last quarter to allow Rowville to reduce their sizable lead but still won by a healthy 54 points kicking 20.13.133 to 11.13.79. Key forwards Gary Sheppard and Billy Schilling both kicked a bag of goals and were on the end of some great play up the ground by the team. Matt Groenewald racked up numerous possessions in the midfield and was supported by strong performances from skipper Jack Meredith and Kyle Larson.
